FAQ
No, all your fees for pool entry are covered in your lesson price.
We do not. Our coaches may choose to take major holidays off to spend time with their families or to focus on their own swimming goals.
Every student is different, that means everyone’s time line to learn to swim is different. However, we suggest starting lessons as far in advance as possible! The more time you can give to lessons the more confident and independent you will be.
If you find a swimming lesson slot that you like and you have a credit card on file, we can automatically book you into that slot each week. This means that you will not have to check the calendar for slot availability and your slot will be automatically reserved each week. This service is great for swimmers who need convenience, consistency, have a firm schedule, and can commit to long-term swimming lessons.
Your card will be charged each week.
We only offer this service if it is requested and requires instructor and office approval. You must attend at least 1 lesson in order to be considered for this service.
It has been proven over and over that lower student to teacher ratio is the best situation for learning. Therefore, one student to one instructor is the optimal for learning. A private 20-60 minute lesson is 20-60 minutes with an instructor. A group lesson for a half hour with four student is about 7 minutes per student with the instructor. Private lessons are designed to get an adult or child safe in the water. At Swim Fit Alaska LLC we specialize in quick and effective learning through one-on-one lessons that are individually tailored to the student’s learning style and developmental level.
Our front desk team would be happy to adjust your lesson schedule for you. You can also change appointments on your Square app.
Our swim lesson availability depends on what pool time our aquatic facilities have open for our learn to swim program. We must share the pools with other programs, lap swims, open swims, high school swim teams and age group swim teams, and other lesson programs. All of these groups require large quantities of pool time and use all of the pool space when their activity is taking place in the pool natatorium. Swim Fit Alaska LLC works around and with all these organizations to acquire as much pool time as possible. Our private swim lessons are in high demand. When our office staff is made aware of available pool time, we immediately assign an instructor and list the times on our booking sights. These time slots are usually gone within hours, because of the high demand our community has for private swim lessons.
Please email our office at swimfitalaska@yahoo.com and Ashley will get you started on the sign up paperwork and give you access to our coaches Square Reservation Links.
The pool schedule changes frequently to make more lessons available or clients cancel their scheduled swim lesson. As soon as our office staff is made aware of available lesson times, they are immediately listed on Swim Fit Alaska instructors Square websites and announced on Facebook. The lessons are open to all preregistered clients on a first come, first serve basis. ALWAYS CHECK BACK TO SEE IF ANOTHER LESSON HAS OPENED.
Every child and adult is unique and develops at their own pace. Babies and toddlers who have had positive water experiences early tend to develop faster because they do not develop a fear for the water. Keeping this in mind, the younger they get started, the sooner they will become safe and happy swimmers.
Learning to swim is not a skill that you can learn in just a few lessons, but requires time to develop and practice. We recommend beginners take 3 lessons per week for maximum skill retention and fast progression
We do not offer a trial lesson, as this creates scheduling conflicts for our coaches.
Keep in mind that our coaches have a lot of experience with children (and adults) who do not like water on their faces, this is a major component in learning to swim that (we believe) must be overcome. How do we aid this process? Exposure, exposure, exposure; followed by gentle coaxing and a lot of praise. We also request the help of parents in encouraging children to get their faces wet during bath time. Handing a child a dry towel or reaching to wipe their wet face will only prolong and enforce their phobia. If you act like a wet face is no big deal, they will learn to overcome their discomfort around water.
While we cannot guarantee that there will be an available spot at your preferred day and time with your favorite instructor, we’ll do everything we can to work with your schedule and preferences. We recommend that you remain enrolled, even if you do miss a few lessons.
No, we do not.
No matter what swim level you are at, here are 10 essential items to bring along with you to ensure you have the best possible experience at the pool.
- SWIMSUIT
No matter what your age, it’s important to have a swimsuit that fits properly. If should have a snug fit; you do not want any part of it to slide off of your child’s body.
- GOGGLES & SWIM CAP
Not only do goggles keep the chlorine out of your eyes, but they also encourage better technique, especially if your child is new to swimming. If your child has longer hair, a hair band or swim cap will help keep the hair out of his or her face.
- SWIM DIAPER
Swim diapers or swim diaper covers (which are reusable) are mandatory for any child who is not potty trained at all Borough pools.
- SHOWER SUPPLIES
The chlorine in the pool often leaves your skin dry. Remember to bring shower essentials with you including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, moisturizer and a brush.
- WATER
Remember that swimming is a form of exercise. Bring a water bottle to prevent your child from becoming dehydrated.
- TOWEL
Bring a towel to the pool deck. It will help keep your child warm when finished his or her lesson. In addition, it prevents water puddles, which are a slip-and-fall hazard.
- LOCK
Don’t forget to bring a combination or key lock with you to secure your personal items in the locker room. If you love it, lock it up! It’s best to keep things like your cell phone, purse and wallet in a safe and dry area.
- SNACK
Kids get hungry, especially after a swim lesson. Pack a healthy treat for them to enjoy. - FLIP FLOPS
Footwear that is easy to slide on and off is encouraged when walking from the locker room area to the pool deck. A proper pair of flip-flops or water shoes will prevent slipping.
- GYM BAG
A proper bag to place all of your items in is a must. Pack a comfortable outfit for your child to change into after his or her lesson.
